Road to Recovery Update 2015: Consumers Ending With Spending

The Road to Recovery series is the Global Insights team’s examination of how the U.S. consumer’s spending and personal financial attitudes have changed since the crisis.

In 2015, MasterCard Global Insights has added an additional update in advance of the holiday season. This update includes new data on credit and debit card spending for the year, but also asks consumers about their holiday spending plans, especially any changes that may result from the lower gas prices.

The results have been quite interesting, including the news that 61 percent of consumers say they plan to finances holiday spending with money they’ve saved over the course of the year, while only 14 percent say they plan to borrow on their credit cards. This will surely be something to watch as we emerge from the holiday season.
